I recently kept getting this error when trying to go through the checkout on a Virtuemart store:

Invalid Pickup Postcode supplied, maximum length must not be greater than 4 digits

I struggled for a long time but finally found the simple solution:
ensure that your store's address in Virtuemart has the correct postcode.
